FIT2D is now available for Apple Macintosh OS X systems thanks to collaborators outside the ESRF. They have compiled and linked a FIT2D version and provided me with the executable, which is available for downloading. (I do not have a Macintosh OSX myself.)

To get FIT2D running on a Macintosh, you need to:
This is not provided by default with the OSX system. Both free and commercial X-window managers are available. e.g. X11 for Mac: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/x11formacosx.html
You can rename the program file to fit2d and put it into the "Applications" folder. Then you can run it form any directory you want simply by typing fit2d
