FIT2D uses the FITPACK library of Paul Dierckx, Dept. of Computing Science, Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven, Belgium, for surface fitting with spline functions.
FIT2D uses the ``readline'' library from the ``Free Software Foundation'' and has benefitted greatly from the use of gmake and emacs.
FIT2D has benefitted much (and hopefully vice versa) from the involvement of ESRF staff and Ph.D. students, and external users. In particular the following have provided much input and constructive criticism: Peter Bösecke, Andy Fitch, Michael Hanfland, Daniel Häusermann, Martin Kunz, Christian Riekel, Olof Svensson, Karl Syassen, Andy Thompson, Thomas Ursby, Christine Wassilew Reul, Tim and Linda Wess, and Fredrico Zontone. Similarly Ron Ghosh (ILL, Grenoble) has provided much helpful advice.
The author would like to thank Tim and Linda Wess for permission to show the collagen data, which was collected at the SRS, Daresbury, England; Andy Fitch and Phil Pattison for permission to show the olivine data, which was collected on the Swiss-Norwegian Beam-line at the ESRF, France.
