It has often been useful to be able to sub-divide a volume into smaller volumes e.g. so a sub-volume will fit on a CD-ROM . hst_slave could of course be run several times, each time reconstructing a different sub-volume, but it is probably more convenient to reconstruct the whole volume and afterwards divide it into sub-volumes.
hst_view allows you to select an existing volume and to output a series of smaller sub-volumes. A sub-volume may contain 1 or more slices. By default hst_cut suggests a size which will completely fit on a 650 Mbyte CD-ROM. A series of output files will be generated with the file names based on the input volume file, but with an underscore and 4-digit number inserted.
e.g. If the input volume is called recon.vol and 4 sub-volume output files are generated they will be called: recon_0001.vol, recon_0002.vol, recon_0003.vol, and recon_0004.vol.
