Before you come...
Users have to attend a safety training course before starting the experiment. The safety training session is available on the ESRF User Portal.
For general information
Consult the web pages of the user office, in particular if this is your first visit to the ESRF. There you will find find the latest proposal submission deadlines, comprehensive information on the facility in general, on administrative matters including Visas, on travel and accommodation, on the completion of the A-form, on the beam-time application procedure, advise on "Writing a Good Proposal" etc., etc.
Applying for beamtime on ID22
Scientists from countries associated with ESRF have free access to the experimental facilities. Beam time is allocated on the basis of scientific merit, following the recommendations of the Review Committees and that the experiment proposed meets technical feasibility and safety requirements. Please do not hesitate to contact the ID22 beamline staff for detailed technical information and to discuss potential projects before the submission deadline. Consider including your local contact and other ESRF staff as collaborators in case you require an elaborate experimental setup and/or you do not think that you can run the experiment by yourself (see the general ESRF guidelines for users).
Preparing your experiments
In case your proposal is accepted you will receive notice from the user office and shortly after the scheduled dates from the beamline responsible. A beam line staff member will be assigned to you as your local contact, who will give advice and prepare the beamline for your experiment.
Users have to attend a safety training course before starting the experiment. The safety training session is available on the ESRF User Portal.
It is the responsibility of the users to plan their experiments early in advance and to contact the beamline staff to discuss the experimental setup. Users with experiments that require gases (e.g. catalysis) should ask us to order them as soon as possible (delivery times can be several months!).
If you want to use the ESRF support laboratories, you have to book them in advance via the A-Form. For access to the chemistry laboratory, fill in the User declaration Form (.doc) (.pdf) at least 15 days before the starting date of the experiment.
