Since the Belledonne and Chartreuse construction, most of the expert engineers in charge of the construction at that time are no longer at the ESRF. Nevertheless, based on past experience, the High Quality Slab construction for the new BM18 satellite building has been carried out. The article on page 176 serves as a reminder for the basic technical requirements underlying the specifications, and details how this technical solution has been implemented on BM18.
In 2020, Hydrostatic Level System and vibration measurements were made to study stability for the new EBSL beamlines. The article on page 174 details these studies carried out on the ID03, ID14 and BM18 panels and the need to extend the investigations by long-term measurements associated with simulation tools.
The pandemic has also demonstrated the key expertise of ESRF staff and the importance of the investments made in software and hardware technologies. In particular, the ESRF was able to ensure excellent experimental conditions for remote access, allowing users to work remotely and thus being able to continue supporting scientific research for the benefit of the ESRF partner countries and beyond.
