ESRF celebrates first year of EBS On 25 August, the ESRF celebrated one year of user operation of the Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS) its revolutionary new high-energy, fourth-generation synchrotron light source and one year of promising new science. In its first year of operation, over 1600 user experiments were carried out with ESRF-EBS. To celebrate the first year, the ESRF produced a video (youtu.be/1C-kLi-RHC8), with five portraits of ESRF scientists, highlighting examples of the new scientific opportunities provided by EBS:
· Paul Tafforeau, imaging the core of fossils and human organs · Alexandra Pacureanu, mapping the circuits of the brain · Daniele de Sanctis, studying proteins to tackle biomedical and bio-environmental challenges · Angelika Rosa, revealing planetary formation processes · Hiram Castillo-Michel, investigating the fate of nanomaterials in the environment
