The EPN site is a protected area: each person on the common ESRF/ILL/EMBL site has to wear a badge.
This badge is given at the site entrance provided the authorization for site entrance has been given.
You will need to produce proof of identification at your arrival, only the following will be accepted:
This badge must be presented to the guards at the site entrance every time you enter the site. The ESRF Experimental Hall and the Central Building are under controlled access outside normal working hours and you will need your badge to open the doors. The badge is valid for the duration of the experiment. The use of the badge is strictly personal. Badges must be worn visibly at all times on site. At the end of your experiment, before you leave the ESRF, you must return your badge and its holder to the site entrance.
The site entrance badge is also used to pay for meals at the ILL/ESRF common restaurant on site.
Accomodation
Users invited for experiments are accommodated at the Guesthouse provided the request for accommodation arrangement has been made through the electronic A Form. The Guesthouse is located on site, to the left to the main gate as you enter.
Note: Outside opening hours of the reception, your room key will be given to you at the site entrance.

How to pay for meals at the ILL/ESRF common restaurant?
Your site entrance badge is used for the payment of meals at the ILL/ESRF restaurant and at the 'take away counter' located in the cafeteria.

In the case that users miss the available opening times at the restaurant and sandwich counter, there are restaurants, bakers and a supermarket on the Avenue des Martyrs (15mins walk or 1 tram stop away - stop Marie-Louise Paris CEA).
During your visit you may wish to connect a LAPTOP to the ESRF network on the beamlines.
Please consult the Charter for the use of the computing resources at the ESRF.
You are allowed to do so, provided that your computer has an up-to-date anti-virus program which has recently scanned your computer. Please get in touch with your Local Contact or with the Computing Services if you require help.

You are welcome to consult books and periodicals in the joint ILL/ESRF Library, which is located in the Science Building, Room 410 and 418. You will not, however, be able to borrow documents. Please restrict any photocopies to an absolute minimum.
Library opening hours: Monday to Friday from 08:00-17:00.
Use of the library outside opening hours:
Should you wish to use the library outside working hours (08:00-17:00), in the evenings and/or at weekends, please activate your badge on the badge update reader located on the ground floor of the Science Building.

You can can buy a pass for the tramway & bus network in Grenoble (TAG):
A one-way ticket for local buses can also be purchased from the bus drivers (note that the drivers will not accept banknote > 10 Euro).
Note that if an OURA card is purchased to buy multiple tickets (the card is not needed to purchase single journey tickets), it will only be reimbursed by the ESRF for 'reimbursed' users who were booked into a hotel in town by the ESRF.
