"What I like most about the ESRF is the team-work, community spirit and knowledge-sharing. I am part of a small team and have very diverse tasks. I get to see, and learn, a lot. I work on the infrastructure – from planning evolutions and improvements to configuring monitoring and automation tools. I find it rewarding to be able to monitor user experience and see the direct consequences of the improvements implemented. I feel I am doing my bit to help science with my technical skills. A facility like the ESRF has a high level of connectivity and very fast data transfer. From live streaming a presentation to acquiring terabytes of data from an experiment, there is a lot of work behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. The computing technology used at the ESRF is diverse and complex and the infrastructure has to follow fast evolving technology. We need to maintain the high quality, reliability and protection of data flow; it's an important part of the user experience. The ESRF is aware that connectivity is vital in maintaining the scientific excellence of the facility, so the network infrastructure gets the attention and budget it needs. We really do things with care, there is no duct-taping! I worked in a large commercial enterprise before joining the ESRF and one of the big differences is that, here, I have discovered a culture of knowledge sharing, inside the ESRF but also with other institutes. The strong community feeling and mutual support means that, at the end of the day, you feel you are part of a much bigger team."

Laure studied telecommunications and networks engineering in Toulouse. She worked in the datacenters of a large company before joining the ESRF in 2022.
