One of the developments planned in the EBS instrumentation programme, which aims to take full advantage of the new source, concerns the production of polished diamond X-ray lenses.
The recent advances in laser ablation and wavefront metrology at BM05 has led to the emergence of high- quality diamond lenses, which can be readily integrated into existing beamline optical schemes. Diamond is an ideal material for X-ray lenses for use under high heat- load conditions. These single-crystal lenses offer, in many aspects, superior performance to Beryllium lenses, and their fabrication route offers significant flexibility in tailoring the lens characteristics to the specific needs of a given application. More details are provided in T. Roth s paper on page 159.
