Because the ESRF is supported by 22 countries, diversity has always been part of its DNA.

38 nationalities are represented among the staff and continuous effort is being put in developing diversity and inclusiveness, with significant actions being taken to promote the employment of disabled persons and to encourage gender equality.

Examples of concrete actions which have been taken are:

  • Organisation of the Synchrotron@School programme, which consists in inviting high school students for a one-day immersion in our institute and to encourage to pursue their education in the sciences
  • Free French classes are offered to newcomers (and their spouses) who don’t speak French, to help them adapt to life in France
  • Participation in Sport2Job events, which are sports challenges organised to bridge the gap between employment and handicap

Gender equality

Gender equality in the workplace is measured through the gender equality index. 
This index takes the form of a score out of 100 and is based on five criteria for assessing inequalities between women and men in the workplace.

The ESRF gender equality index score for 2022 is  79/100.

Results per indicator :

1. Remuneration gap : 39/40

2. Individual advancement gap : 10/20

3. Promotion gap : 15/15

4. Percentage of staff beneffiting from an individual advancement when back from maternity leave : 15/15

5. Number of staff of the under represented gender among the highest remunerations : 0/10

Egalité professionnelle

L'égalité femmes-hommes dans les entreprises est dotée d'un nouvel outil : l’index de l’égalité femmes-hommes.
Sous la forme d’une note sur 100,  il se compose de cinq indicateurs qui évaluent les inégalités entre femmes et hommes.

A l'ESRF l'index de l'égalité professionnelle est de  79/100 pour l'année 2022.
