The ESRF is located at the heart of the French Alps, in Grenoble, a cosmopolitan city, a centre of innovation, recognised around the world for its research centres, its universities, its economic vitality. The ESRF is part of the European Photon & Neutron (EPN) Science Campus, a science hub hosting major international institutes for the exploration of living matter and materials (ESRF, ILL, EMBL, IBS). These institutes share a guesthouse, restaurant, library, medical centre and other facilities and services. The campus is served by a bus line and a tram line.
The ESRF is also a partner of GIANT, Grenoble Innovation for Advanced New Technologies, the campus of global innovation and the lifeblood of economic and scientific development in Grenoble.

By car
When arriving from Geneva, Chambéry or Turin on the A41
Follow the signs "Rocade Sud/N87" in the direction of Lyon. Continue on the A480 towards Lyon.
Take exit n°1.1 "Sassenage-Fontaine". Turn right at the roundabout (you will see the ESRF beamlines on your right). Drive for about 300 metres then turn right into the EPN campus site.
When arriving from Lyon or Valence on the A48
As you approach Grenoble, follow the signs "Grenoble Bastille-Gares-Europole". Take exit n°16 "Grenoble Gares, Europole - Polygone Scientifique". After the suspension bridge over the river (Pont d'Oxford), filter into the right lane, then turn right onto the rue des Martyrs. Keep right and follow the tram line to the next set of traffic lights. Turn left here into the EPN campus site.

From Lyon Saint Exupéry International airport

A shuttle bus service runs regularly from Lyon Saint Exupéry airport to Grenoble town centre (roughly 1h). Either stop at the "Oxford" stop (a 10-minute walk from the EPN campus), or at the bus station "Gare Routière" if you are staying in the town centre.
The shuttles are run by Blablacar Bus and Flixbus. You can reserve seats at the earliest one month before your travel date.

- Tram B - The terminus of tram B "Oxford" is 350 metres from the site entrance. Trams run every day from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. roughly. Maps and timetables
- Bus C6 - To Fontaine, Seyssinet and Seyssins. The stop "Martyrs Résistance" is just in front of the site entrance.
- Bus n°54 - To Sassenage and St Egrève. The stop "Martyrs Résistance" is just in front of the site entrance.
- Bus n°22 - To St Egrève. The stop "Oxford" is 400m from the site entrance, just next to the tram stop.
