Fig. 36: Magnetic Compton profiles of iron at different incident energies. The scattering geometry is fixed and thus the incident energies of 245, 470 and 705 keV correspond to momentum transfers of 1/5, 1/2 and 1/1 times mc. The integral of the magnetic Compton profiles is decreasing with energy, but the data still have to be corrected with the degree of circular polarisation before the evolution of the cross-section can be followed. The resolution is better than 0.4 a.u. and high-resolution features of the magnetic Compton profile of iron such as a shoulder at low momentum of 0.5 a.u. can be obtained.
