Scope of the Workshop
The x-ray standing wave (XSW) method is a unique tool in the fields of surface/interface and materials science, adding structural information to spectroscopic techniques. It is advantageously combined with hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES), which is rapidly gaining interest because it adds large probing depth to all other strong features of PES.
The workshop shall provide an overview of present activities, identify emerging applications, and find out future trends of XSW, HAXPES and their combination.
Specifically, the workshop is aimed at:
-
Exploring the need for a HAXPES/XSW beamline at the ESRF
-
Identifying its capabilities and specifying its scientific mission
-
Discussing technical issues (beamline outline, optics, detectors, …)
-
Kick-starting the scientific case and conceptual design report for an ESRF XSW/HAXPES beamline
