Nano-SXM Sample preparation
Different sample holders have been designed for the new nanoscope. Since the instrument is operated under a good vacuum (<10-7 mbar), users are asked to be very careful with the use of materials for sample mounting, to avoid contamination of the vacuum chamber.
Analyses at room temperatures
This sample holder has been designed to glue 5mm Si3N4 membranes. We recommend membranes with frame: 5.0 mm x 5.0 mm, 200 μm thick and membrane: 2.0 mm x 2.0 mm, 200 nm thick.
Small samples (e.g. thin sections), can be maintained between 2 Ultralene polymer films.
Thick samples (e.g. resin blocks) can be maintained with some screws. This sample holder allows mounting one block or a series of blocks glued together, for a maximal width of 12mm and height of 5.5mm. The minimum thickness of the blocks to be maintained by the screws is 4 mm.
Small thick blocks (max 1mm thick) can be glued from the back side on this sample holder.
Analyses in cryogenic conditions
The cryo sample holder has been designed to clip 5mm Si3N4 membranes. We recommend membranes with frame: 5.0 mm x 5.0 mm, 200 μm thick and membrane: 2.0 mm x 2.0 mm, 200 nm thick.
