On 30 April, the French Authorities communicated a four-stage plan, which will gradually ease the restrictions presently in place to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic in France, and decided to apply the first stage from 3 May 2021 until 18 May 2021. Depending on the evolution of the sanitary conditions, the second and successive stages will be implemented following confirmation to be made in due course by the French Authorities from 19 May, 9 June and 30 June, respectively.

As a consequence, the ESRF Management, wishes to inform staff and all other people working on the ESRF site that the measures currently applied have been reviewed and are updated starting from 3 May as explained below, and will be further updated in line with the decision of the French Authorities to move to the successive stages of the plan.

ESRF users for experiments, as well as visitors and contractors, are welcome on-site, as long as they comply with the sanitary and travel regulations applied in France and in the Grenoble area. When on the ESRF site and on the EPN Science Campus, they are invited to respect strictly all hygiene, distancing and sanitary measures currently in place to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and to keep the site a safe working place.

Teleworking is still privileged whenever possible, and may be eased from 9 June as currently envisaged by the French Authorities.

People leaving the site during the curfew hours (after 19:00 until18 May, and after 21:00 from 19 May to 9 June, and after 23:00 from 9 to 30 June) must be in possession of an employer’s certificate.

All sanitary, hygiene and distancing measures, as mentioned above, currently in place to ensure the protection and safety of people on site, are maintained until further notice:

  • People on site are reminded to respect strictly the COVID-19 protective and sanitary measures in place, which can be consulted through the following link:
  • People on site must wear masks at all times, both inside the ESRF’s premises and on its grounds outside, except when alone in an office with fresh-air ventilation.
  • Social gatherings are forbidden and professional face-to-face meetings must be avoided as much as possible. The evolution of the sanitary situation will be carefully monitored, and these measures reviewed as required, possibly by 30 June.
  • The adopted hygiene and safety procedures will continue to apply at the restaurant and the cafeteria.
  • Professional travel remains suspended. Exceptions may be authorised by the concerned Director of Division on a case-by-case basis.
