and/or metal unloading in the endosperm cavity (such YSL and ZIP proteins) do not carry any (or only very few) metals bound to thiol-containing peptides such as Cd.
This study provides the first high-resolution maps of Cd distribution in durum wheat grain and
thereby adds to understanding of the processes involved in Cd loading and storage in cereal seeds. The results of ยต-XANES showing that Cd is mainly linked to sulfur ligands in the vascular bundle area suggests that sulfur fertilisation could be a way to reduce the allocation of Cd to the grain in durum wheat.
