exciting research programmes in the coming year. In addition, despite unavoidable delays, the upgrade plan for the resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) station has progressed. Although it is too early to fully quantify the impact, the initial results show that the aims of achieving better energy resolution and improved throughput, at constant energy resolution, are being met. The upgrade will continue in 2021, and beyond, with further optical improvements.
This chapter contains articles with research carried out on the Electronic structure, Magnetism and Dynamics beamlines and the CRG beamlines BM26A, BM20, BM16, BM25 and BM08. The topics cover catalysis, fuel cells, memory and glow-in-the-dark materials, molecular magnets, actinides and the signature of phonons in resonant inelastic X-ray scattering. ID12 and ID26 notice a continued increase in the demand for experiments in the tender X-ray range and the beamlines keep developing and improving instrumentation that enables state- of-the-art research in this energy range.
