Langmuir Trough
Fig. 1: Side view of the ID10 Langmuir trough. |
The ID10 station is equipped with a Langmuir trough. Figure 1 shows a side view of this equipment. On this picture, the X-ray beam goes from left side, scatters on the surface and passes through Sollers collimater to a linear detector. The Langmuir trough is equipped with a moveable single barrier. The surface pressure is measured using a Wilhelmy balance (Surface Pressure Sensor Model PS4, Nima Technology Ltd). The barrier position and the surface pressure are controlled by SPEC via R&K system. The trough is sealed and filled with helium (cover is not shown). The Langmuir trough is mounted on active vibration isolation system (MOD-2 S, Halcyonics). Optionally the Langmuir trough maight be connected to thermostated bath.
Dimensions:
- Width 170 mm (size along the beam)
- Length 438 mm (size along direction of the barrier movement)
- Depth 3 mm
- Volume: 1) Without the meniscus 22.34 cl ; 2)With the meniscus (~2 mm above the edge of the trough) 37.23 cl
- Maximum compression rate 6
- Area in compressed state : 61 x 170 mm2
- Area in expanded state: 418 x 170 mm2
- Temperature rainge +10oC - +30oC
