The ESRF is located in Grenoble in south east France, about 3 hours by high-speed train from Paris, 2 hours by bus from Geneva, and 1 hour by high-speed train from Lyon.
How to reach Grenoble and the ESRF on the EPN site

Note that the ESRF makes travel arrangements only for the invited speakers and the invited participants. Other participants are requested to make their own travel arrangements to and from Grenoble, and to cover their travel expenses.
Tram line "B" :
- serves downtown Grenoble, including the bus and railway station. It allows easy access (even at night) from downtown Grenoble to the ESRF.
- its terminus - 'Grenoble Presqu'île' - is situated just 350 metres from the site entrance.
Access to EPN Campus site (map)
From the residence Marie-Curie to the ESRF/ILL campus:
You take the tramway B direction "Grenoble Presqu'île" (tramway stop "Ecole internationale", 50 m on your right when you come out of the main entrance of the residence).
You get off at 'Grenoble Presqu'île'. Please see the EPN Campus site map to get to the site entrance.
Meeting point on Sunday 2 September: Cafeteria next to the ESRF/ILL restaurant at 18:00 to meet the organisers and tutors with welcome buffet
Don't forget your identity card which is requested at the site entrance. You will not be able to access the site without your ID card.

Please check with the nearest French Consulate or your travel agent well in advance of the summer programme for up-to-date information.
We can provide you with an official document ("Convention d'Accueil d'un Chercheur ou d'un Enseignant-chercheur Etranger") to apply for a French visa: consult our information page on "Visa Requirements" and send the requested information to obtain a "Convention d'Accueil" directly to the event organizers.
Bike rental
You can rent a bike in front of the railway station "Métro-vélo" for 15€ per month (under 25 years), 25€ (25 years and older).
There is a bike path along the river from ESRF/ILL site (epn campus) to Grenoble city. You have to give a printed document from your bank (RIB) with your bank details, IBAN code (in case you break or lose the bike) and an identity card. On Saturdays and Sundays it is open from 9:00 until 19:00.
Bus & Tramway
You can take a pass for the tramway & bus network in Grenoble (TAG) in the “Agences de Mobilité” for 15€ per month ( under 25 years old), 56,70€ (from 25 years old). Possibility of financial support for the transport. The Agency is located between the railway station and tramway stop “Alsace Lorraine”.
You need an identity card, photo, 5€ for the transport card.
Or you buy a pass for 10 trips for 14,30€ (special price for 30 trips = 40,70€) at the tramway stations.
