Scope

MASSIF-1 was the first beamline in the world to offer automated data collection and has been at the forefront of automation ever since. This remarkable achievement relies on many technological developments, both in instrumentation and software, and has led to many similar beamlines being launched at synchrotrons across the world. 2024 marks the 10th year of user operation on MASSIF-1 during which time over 125,000 samples have been automatically processed.

A one-day symposium will highlight this important milestone. The invited speakers will present the technical developments that facilitated the construction and main refurbishment of the beamline over the decade. The research highlights, from external users, will show how the beamline has been at the forefront of macromolecular crystallography but also how the service offered by MASSIF-1 has been an inspiration to other synchrotrons. The details of how the MASSIF-1 project is still producing surprising results from automated data collection will also be discussed.
