The Young Scientist Award goes to Serena Margadonna

An Italian scientist working at the University of Edinburgh, Serena Margadonna, won the 10th Young Scientist Award. She exploited high-resolution diffraction facilities at the ESRF to perform outstanding crystallographic work on complex materials, with special emphasis on molecular solids. She presented her work in her talk "A chemist’s adventures with synchrotron X-ray powder  diffraction".

The "Young Scientist of the Year" award is given every year by the Users' Organisation at the Users’ Meeting for outstanding work done at the ESRF by a scientist 35 years of age or younger.

The prize for the best poster went to Thomas Hase, from the University of Durham, for his poster entitled Grazing Incidence X-ray Scattering from Patterned Nanoscale Dot Arrays.
