High Power Laser Facility
High Power Laser Facilty
The High Power Laser Facility couples a 50 J nanosecond drive laser to ID24-ED to perform single-bunch (100 ps) X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy on laser-driven dynamically compressed samples. It features with dedicated optical diagnostics to characterize sample hydrodynamics during compression: currently 2 line-imaging VISARs. A streaked optical pyrometer will be available from mid-2024.
Users' Access
The standard ESRF calls for proposals are used: twice a year for experiments scheduled 12 months later.
The facility is open for both:
- laser + VISAR + X-rays experiments
- laser + VISAR experiments (referenced as laser-only or offline experiments)
Before official X-ray beamtime, we require that you send us some of your targets 6 months ahead for us to assess their behavior.
